Rev. Alice M. Cook, Pastor (pastorcook@umcbala.org)
Alice has served the UMC of Bala Cynwyd since 2008. She is an ordained elder in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference of the United Methodist Church; and has served congregations for over 20 years. A graduate of Eastern University of St. Davids, PA, and also the Divinity School of Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. Alice has served in Philadelphia, Delaware, Montgomery, Bucks and Chester counties. She has also served churches in Nashville, TN, and been a church coach in Birmingham, Alabama. Alice has written articles for This Is Our Life publications on mental retardation.

Rev. Mary Duff, Director of Christian Education
Rev. Dr. Mary Brown Duff serves as the Director of Christian Education. She has a vast experience in teaching and in Christian ministry. Mary is a graduate of Bluefield State College in W.V. She has done graduate work at Temple University, the University of Pittsburgh, and has earned a Master of Divinity from Palmer Theological Seminary. She has also studied abroad extensively. She is retired from the Philadelphia School District where she taught for 36 and a half years. She has received many awards, including the Pennsylvania State Teacher of the Year Award.  As a pastor she has served numerous churches in the Philadelphia area. She has many affiliations from sororities to being honored by the Chapel of the Four Chaplains. Mary has served for over 10 years at the United Methodist Church of Bala Cynwyd in many capacities. As an ordained elder of the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference she utilizes her gifts and graces with all ages groups.

Frank Van Atta, Organist/Choir Director
Frank Van Atta has served as Director of Music at the United Methodist Church of Bala Cynwyd since September of 2010. A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Frank J. Van Atta is currently pursuing a master’s degree in choral conducting at the Temple  university Boyer College of Music and Dance. Van Atta recently graduated from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music with degrees in choral music education and organ performance. While there, he studied organ with Professor Emeritus Dr. Marilyn Kesier and voice with Professor Marietta Simpson. Before coming to the United Methodist Church of Bala Cynwyd, Van Atta served as the Director of Music at Wesley United Methodist Church in Indianapolis, IN, where he directed the Chancel and PRAISE! choirs and served as the organist. Frank completed his student teaching experience at North Central High School, in the fall of 2010, assisting with the direction of five of the school’s ten choirs, under the direction of Mrs. Patricia Wiehe. He has performed with orchestras and choirs from across the country; the most notable of which being the Mendelssohn Club of Philadelphia, The Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsubrgh, the Philadelphia Orchestra, and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.

Jamaal Garner, Sexton
