Frank Van Atta has served as Director of Music at the United Methodist Church of Bala Cynwyd since September of 2010.
A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Frank J. Van Atta is currently pursuing a master’s degree in choral conducting at the Temple university Boyer College of Music and Dance. Van Atta recently graduated from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music with degrees in choral music education and organ performance. While there, he studied organ with Professor Emeritus Dr. Marilyn Kesier and voice with Professor Marietta Simpson.
Before coming to the United Methodist Church of Bala Cynwyd, Van Atta served as the Director of Music at Wesley United Methodist Church in Indianapolis, IN, where he directed the Chancel and PRAISE! choirs and served as the organist. Frank completed his student teaching experience at North Central High School, in the fall of 2010, assisting with the direction of five of the school’s ten choirs, under the direction of Mrs. Patricia Wiehe. He has performed with orchestras and choirs from across the country; the most notable of which being the Mendelssohn Club of Philadelphia, The Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsubrgh, the Philadelphia Orchestra, and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.
