|Dear Members and Friends,|
Greetings during this Season of Epiphany. This is the time in our church calendar when we experience light and hope.
As many of you know the United Methodist Church of Bala Cynwyd has been prayerfully considering its future and ministry these past months. In having conversations with Ardmore UMC and with our District Superintendent, Dr. Anita Powell we have entered into merger talks. Both congregations have made affirmative moves in their respective Charge Conferences in regards to this. The basis for merger is ministry driven. Together we can do more in our ministry and have a stronger presence in our area.
A committee comprised of persons representing both churches has met and will continue to meet in order to ensure that the transition will go smoothly. Connecting with one another, sharing leadership and learning from our respective traditions are all part of the process. On Sunday, November 17 we shared a pulpit exchange with Pastor Tim preaching at Bala Cynwyd, and Brenda Del Rosario, Christ Servant Minister, preaching at Ardmore. It was a positive experience for both congregations.
Some important dates regarding both congregations are:
Sunday, January 19, 2014: This will be the last morning worship service for the congregation of The United Methodist Church of Bala Cynwyd to be in their building. The service is at 10:30 a.m.
Sunday, January 26, 2014: This will be the first service of The United Methodist Church of Bala Cynwyd meeting with Ardmore UMC together at Ardmore UMC at 10:00 a.m. for a tour of the building. At 10:45 a.m. there will be a sacred concert in the sanctuary and, and worship at 11:00 a.m. with our District Supt., Rev. Dr. Anita Powell present.
We will meet each Sunday for worship at 11:00 a.m. and for Sunday School for all ages at 10:00 a.m. at Ardmore UMC.
On Sunday, February 9 at 4 p.m. there will be a Leave/Taking Service at the United Methodist Church of Bala Cynwyd. This is a service which deconsecrates the building as a United Methodist place of worship. We will have former ministers present and also our District Supt. It will be a time to celebrate the past, and ask God’s blessings as we move towards the future. Our church is not closing; our place of worship is moving.
Change presents us with new possibilities and a combined energy that will be used for great things for God’s Kingdom.
Your presence in these congregations is valued, and we look forward to the fellowship, ministries, worship and growth that will be part of our future!
Grace and Peace,
Rev. Alice Massimilla Cook
